Interview with Caroline: “There is inspiration everywhere in NYC!”

Caroline is a creative director, stylist, editor, author of the book “Making It in Manhattan” as well as the CEO of Making It in Manhattan. She inspires women all around the world, especially her 182k+ followers on Instagram. We will talk about fashion, her book and much more, so keep reading!

Hello Caroline. We introduced you a little but is there something you would like to add? How would you describe yourself?

I’m a fashion editor, stylist and author! My first book “Making it in Manhattan: The Beginners Guide to Surviving and Thriving in the World of Fashion” just launched on August 21st!

You have a lot of professional interests, but can we talk about your book “Making It in Manhattan”? How would you describe it and what is the one thing about the book that makes your potential reader actually want to read it?

Making it in Manhattan is the ultimate guide for anyone who wants to work in the industry. I’m pulling back the curtain and sharing all of my tips and tricks! I could remember what it was like when I was first starting out so I wanted to give back and create a guide book!

Our project was originally founded in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, how could people from these countries buy your book?

It’s available for purchase on Amazon or Barnes and Noble and also in Walmart.

What are the reasons that make Manhattan so special for you?

I feel like Manhattan is the ultimate American Dream. People from all over dream of moving here to “make it.” It is a place where anything is truly possible. It’s a place that just attracts so many creative and inspiring individuals and has this unspoken magic!

So, the book is mainly about fashion. What does fashion mean to you?

It’s definitely about career advice for making it in fashion, but the tips & tricks can really be applied to any industry! To me, fashion is the way I express myself each and everyday! It’s a way to tell you who I am without having to speak!

When we look at your Instagram, we can see that you are somewhat of a “fashion chameleon”. You can wear both sporty and formal outfits, or even mix it together. Which style is your favourite?

I love so many different styles, that’s why I’m always changing up my look! But I do love a good formal occasion and getting all dressed up for that!

Let’s talk some more about fashion. What are your three top current trends, what trends don’t you like and what trends do you wish would come back?

I don’t really pay attention to trends too much, I like to just dress according to what I like or what I personally gravitate toward! I love mixing prints and textures as well as layering, lots of layers for fall! I guess I’m kind of over the tiny sunglasses trend, I did try it out last spring for a shoot and it was cool, but I’m ready to see what’s next in that area!

What is the one piece of clothing you are most proud of owning and is there one you regret buying?

I love my blue Manolo Blahnik Hangisi’s! I don’t really regret buying anything, everything has or does serve its purpose in my wardrobe accordingly! I did go through a phase though where I used to get really excited by sales and just buy things because they were on sale – not my best idea!

Working on social media can be stressful and tiresome sometimes. Do you sometimes feel uninspired as well? Where do you like to look for inspiration when that happens?

There is an inspiration everywhere in NYC! On the streets, in a cafe around the corner, there is so much inspiration. I also find a lot of inspiration by just scrolling through Instagram!

Is there any motto that you live by?

Work hard & be nice!

One last question. What do you think about our project InfluencersRE?

Love it! So happy to be a part of it! Thank you so much for thinking of me!
